ThiemeMeulenhoff the education publishing specialist announced yesterday that is to become an independent company.
Currently part of the NDC Mediagroep based in Groningen and Leeuwarden it will become independent in January 2013.
The break up of NDC Mediagroep continues after the recent sale by NDC of the multimedia publishers Veen Bosch & Keuning also to management. As well as the ThiemeMeulenhoff announcment the Leeuwarden Courant and Dagblad van Het Norden both owned by the NDC Mediagroep recently published articles reporting two bids have been made for the news media assets of NDC. It was stated one of the bids is by management supported by Investion, part of Vastgoed Groningen BV a property company based in Groningen, Koninklijke BDU and Heidehuis BV. The other bid is by the Fryslân Boppe foundation and the majority shareholder Je Maintiendrai in Leeuwarden. Also reported was NDC has a €180m debt with ING bank and a turnover of €120m in 2012. ING Bank has been involved in both of the recent management buyouts in some capacity.
